I saw it! Everybody in the theater was joking and talking loud, but I saw it. I really think JCM is a genius!

Ciao Alberto... it's good that someone foreigner likes portuguese stuff... but JCM was an asshole and thank god he's dead... at least that way he won't keep spending large amounts of tax payers money to make incredibly CRAP movies like Snow White (aka: Branca de neve!)
There is a lot of much better things to be liked in portugal! :)
Choose better next time! :)

Hey Alberto

What does "I Soliti Ignoti" mean!

This is the name of one of the best italian movies ever, with Vittorio Gassman, Marcello Mastroianni and Toto. I'm ordering it from Criterion but I would like to know the exact translation.

I did not say that Branca de Neve is a masterpiece, but people in theather was unable to follow and TRY to understand 75 mins of black screen with dialogues. Have you tried to understand it ? Maybe just the effort would have make watching it useful.
Monteiro was the kind of director I'm bound to trust, whatever he'd say. I feel much less confortable with another Portuguese master like Manoel de Oliveira.

Hello Miguel,

"ignoto" means letterally "not known"

"solito" means "usual"

You can translate "I soliti ignoti" (plural) thereby as "people as usual unnamed".

Enjoy the Italian cinema that was and that is no more...[:(]

Ciao Alberto,
JCM was my favorite portuguese director ever. Some movies are not meant to please the mainstream, and some people really have some trouble understanding that!
Did you see the "Trilogia de Deus"? Three different movies with the same character (João de Deus) played by JCM himself, and some of the finest moments in comedy.
As you probably know, JCM died this year, but somehow, even tough his illness was rotting his being, he managed to finish his last movie "Vai e Vem", wich was presented last week in Cannes and will be released soon. I am expecting that movie with mixed feelings: joy for being able to see one more work of him, and sadness for knowing its the last one.
Anyway congratulations for your good taste.

I saw only the second one, "A comedia de deus", but I look forward to see the others.
I hope to find soon the dvds and to have the chance to see again the long cut of "Comedia", because I didnt like the short cut (150 mins.) very much.
Next month of June in Milan a selection of film from Cannes will be screened. Monteiro will be in? I really hope so.
Bye,
Alberto
