Hey folks, Harry here... I know the headline looks like three totally improbable things... but ya know... one of them is true! That's right, forward progression has begun on Lucas' RED TAILS project. For - actually, I don't have a clue how long he's been talking about making a film about the Tuskegee Airmen. I know it began sometime in the same century as the actual event.

I actually seem to have a memory of this project around the same time as HOWARD THE DUCK. Now that's not to cast a HOWARD THE DUCK cloud on this project. Quite the contrary. I've always been excited about HOWARD THE DUCK and the Tuskegee Airmen. I'm hoping he casts folks like Laurence Fishburne or Andre Braugher or Cuba Gooding Jr.

Kidding aside - I love World War II aviation flicks. This is a great story, that even though it was told wonderfully on TV, the story could be amazing with the tools Lucas has at his disposal. I had assumed this was dead a long time ago. And what was the forward progression? He hired John Ridley to write the script. I wonder - all these years that it's been "in development" was there never a script? Hmmm...

So how great is John Ridley? Well... no joking... he's pretty fucking good. He wrote U-TURN, THREE KINGS, and my favorite... UNDERCOVER BROTHER - which is a work of genius that was underappreciated by a world filled with blind heathens.

But now that Lucas has hired a writer, something he usually does in secret and rarely acknowledges to the public - I think there's a chance this will actually get made. And it'll be an interesting combatting Visual Fx battle between Weta and ILM. Because Peter Jackson has his DAMBUSTERS in the pipeline - I wonder which will hit first.

George Lucas prepara-se para produzir «Red Tails», um projecto que nada tem a ver com aquele que preencheu grande parte da sua vida, «Guerra das Estrelas», de acordo com a Fox News.
O filme, que está em pré-produção, é baseado na história de Tuskegee Airmen, o primeiro piloto afro-descendente a voar numa equipa de combate das Forças Aéreas norte-americanas, durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial. O elenco será constituído por Nate Parker, David Ovelowo e o cantor Ne-Yo, mas ainda não se sabe os seus papéis ao certo.

Além de ser responsável pela produção, Lucas assina o argumento da longa-metragem, sendo que o realizador será Anthony Hemingway, conhecido pelo seu trabalho para televisão, nas séries «The Wire» e «Oz».

Até ao momento, nenhum estúdio está envolvido na produção de «Red Tails», o que pode significar que a própria LucasFilmes financie o projecto. Ainda não foi divulgada a data de início das filmagens, mas o filme deve estrear ainda em 2009, avança o IMDB.

"I've been wanting to do Red Tails for 20 years, and we've finally got the means to showcase the skill of the Tuskegee pilots," said Lucas. "We're working on techniques which will give us the first true look at the aerial dogfighting of the era. And our top-notch cast will really make this story special."

"The story of the Tuskegee Airmen represents a milestone in American history, and we're all proud to be paying tribute to their heroic efforts. FILM SYNOPSIS:

1944. World War II rages and the fate of the free world hangs in the balance. Meanwhile the black pilots of the experimental Tuskegee training program are courageously waging two wars at once -- one against enemies overseas, and the other against discrimination within the military and back home. Racial prejudices have long held ace airman Martin "Easy" Julian (Nate Parker) and his black pilots back at base -- leaving them with little to do but further hone their flying skills -- while their white counterparts are shipped out to combat after a mere three months of training. Mistakenly deemed inferior and assigned only second-rate planes and missions, the pilots of Tuskegee have mastered the skies with ease but have not been granted the opportunity to truly spread their wings. Until now.

As the war in Europe continues to take its dire toll on Allied forces, Pentagon brass has no recourse but to reconsider these under-utilized pilots for combat duty. Just as the young Tuskegee men are on the brink of being shut down and shipped back home, Col. A.J. Bullard (Terrence Howard) awards them the ultimate chance to prove their mettle high above. Undaunted by the prospect of providing safe escort to bombers in broad daylight -- a mission so dangerous that the RAF has refused it and the white fighter groups have sustained substantial losses -- Easy's pilots at last join the fiery aerial fray. Against all the odds, with something to prove and everything to lose, these intrepid young airmen take to the skies in a heroic endeavor to combat the enemy -- and the discrimination that has kept them down for so long.

Se todos os artigos fossem como este, a indústria do cinema não tinha de se preocupar com a diminuição das receitas. É dos tais que nos deixa com uma fome intensa para devorar filmes.

Acabei de o ver e a desilusão ainda é forte. Excelentes efeitos especiais mas péssimo desempenhos por parte dos atores, de Cuba Gooding Jr. à nossa Daniela Ruah (num pequeno papel) uma tristeza. 5.7 na tabela do IMDb mas só pelas belas batalhas aéreas produto do esforço inglorio dos excelentes técnicos da ILM mas que não salva o filme. Presumivelmente mais um flop bem grande. Por mim dou-lhe 5/10
