TNT develops 'Homeland Security'
TNT is developing the procedural drama "Tom Clancy's Homeland Security," with former uber-agent Michael Ovitz set to exec produce.
Project would mark Ovitz's first onscreen credit as exec producer for a TV series. He would share exec producer duties with writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach, Clancy and Chris George.
Plotline pits a select team of domestic intelligence operatives against all enemies, both within the country and outside.
While many of Clancy's novels -- the Jack Ryan-centric "The Hunt for Red October," "Patriot Games," "Sum of All Fears" and "Clear and Present Danger" -- have been adapted for the bigscreen, the author's television presence has been relatively minor.TNT Prods. will produce "Homeland Security."
Also, TBS has ordered an untitled comedy pilot from Conan O'Brien's Conaco production shingle.
Untitled half-hour laffer, from writers Ben Wexler (showrunner), Ross Novie and Jay Rondot, will center on a family man who quits his day job and returns to the neighborhood where he grew up. There, he reunites with his former best friend.
Along with the three scribes, O'Brien will exec produce with David Kissinger and Jeff Ross.
Project comes from Warner Horizon Television.
TNT has been extremely busy on the development front of late in both scripted and reality. In addition to buying "Wasteland" from Mick Davis -- about a U.S. marshal who is charged with hunting down the supernatural escapees on the run following a federal prison break -- TNT has a handful of other shows in the pipeline.
Titles include "H.I.K.E.," exec produced by Forest Whitaker, about a cop who deals with kidnappings in Phoenix; "The Order," about an archeologist professor who ends up working in Israel engaging in various digs that explore life's real questions of faith and meaning; and "Rush," a "Rashomon"-style hospital drama about life in the ER.
Meanwhile, TNT is making a major push in the reality genre: There's "The Great Escape," from Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and "The Amazing Race" exec producer Bertram Van Munster, as well as "Search and Rescue," from veteran reality producer Thom Beers ("Ice Road Truckers") and his Original Prods. unit.
Shows will aim to meet the net's newly created "smart popcorn" mantra, a theme recently explained by topper Michael Wright: "That means accessible, entertaining programming with an underlying sense of fun and intelligence."

Fox Developing ‘The Spectre’ Drama Series Based On The DC Comic Book Character
Fox has bought The Spectre, a drama series project based on the DC Comics superhero character co-created by Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel and Bernard Baily. Brandon Camp (John Doe) will write the adaptation and executive produce with feature producer Bill Gerber (Gran Torino). The Spectre, which has received a script commitment, centers on a former cop serving time in afterlife limbo who hunts down earthly criminals on behalf of the dead — and mortals soon to be dead, if ultimate justice is not served. DC Entertainment’s sister TV studio Warner Bros. TV will produce with Gerber Pictures. The Spectre character first appeared in an 1940 issue of DC’s More Fun Comics. Since then, he has been featured in a number of other DC titles and has headlined his own comic book series. Camp was introduced to The Spectre property by DC Comics’ chief creative officer Geoff Johns. The project marks Camp’s return to TV and reunion with Fox; he co-created the network’s 2002 mystery drama John Doe. On the feature side, UTA-repped Camp co-wrote and directed the 2009 Jennifer Aniston movie Love Happens. The Spectre also puts Fox back in the comic book adaptation business and reunites the network with DC following their recent collaboration on Human Target.

Ethan Hawke And Vince D’Onofrio To Star In NBC Crime Drama Written By Chris Brancato
In what will instantly become one of this season’s highest-profile drama projects, I hear that Ethan Hawke and Vince D’Onofrio have teamed with writer-producer Chris Brancato for a cop drama, which has been nabbed by NBC with a production commitment. Brancato conceived the project, titled Blue Tilt, and took it to Hawke and D’Onofrio who helped shape it. All 3 will executive produce. The show will star Hawke and D’Onofrio as two seasoned homicide detectives — one married and one divorced — as they solve cases while dealing with their wives/ex-wives and kids. The title Blue Tilt refers to a cop term for homicide detectives who, as a result of dealing with particularly brutal crimes, become a danger to themselves and are put under psychiatric observation. I hear that the pilot is targeted for a production start by the end of the year in New York where both Hawke and D’Onofrio live. The two actors are old friends and co-starred in the 2009 feature Staten Island together, while Law & Order: Criminal Intent star D’Onofrio worked with Brancato on the final season of the Law & Order spinoff, on which Brancato served as executive producer/showrunner. This marks D’Onofrio’s return to NBC where Law & Order: CI started before moving to cable sibling USA Network. Blue Tilt will be produced by newly renamed Universal Television, which also produces the Law & Order franchise. CAA-repped Hawke will next be seen in The Woman In the Fifth, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, and is about to start Scott Derrickson’s untitled thriller for Summit. On the TV side, the Oscar-nominated actor recently toplined Fox’s pilot Exit Strategy. D’Onofrio, repped by UTA and the Collective, just wrapped Fire with Fire and Chained. For 13 years, WME-repped Brancato was partnered with producer Bert Salke in Brancato/Salke, which was dissolved in summer 2010.

The CW Rebooting '80s Cult Classic Beauty and the Beast
The CW’s 2012 development slate is looking pretty ugly — and I mean that in the best possible way.
Sources confirm to TVLine exclusively that CBS Television Studios is developing a reboot of the ’80s cult classic Beauty and the Beast for The CW.
The original series, which ran on CBS from 1987 to 1990, starred Ron Perlman as the mythic man beast and Linda Hamilton as the object of his affection.
The new version will not only modernize and CW-up the love story but also add a procedural twist. Nice pedigree, too: Without a Trace vet Jennifer Levin and Brothers & Sisters‘ Sherri Cooper will pen the script and serve as executive producers.
I’m told this was the first project new CW president Mark Pedowitz discussed with CBS Studios head David Stapf when he succeeded Dawn Ostroff in the spring. Side note: This B&B is not to be confused with the B&B pilot that ABC is developing for next season. That one is based on the public domain fairy tale about a girl forced to live in a castle with a beast who eventually wins her heart.

Ratings: Two and a Half Men Gets Very High Without Sheen – Record 28 Million Viewers
Ashton Kutcher is indeed packing. Viewers, and a lot of ‘em. The season premiere of CBS’ rejiggered Two and a Half Men on Monday night drew a series-high 27.7 million total viewers, almost doubling the audience of the sitcom’s year-ago opener.
The much-anticipated outing also scored a whopping 10.3 rating in the coveted 18-49 demo, more than doubling its tally there from the 2010 premiere.
All told, CBS’ sitcom line-up had much to smile about. A double helping of How I Met Your Mother delivered 11.7 million viewers and a 4.9 rating, up some 34 percent from a year ago, while 2 Broke Girls cashed in on their one-time lead-in, premiering to 19.2 mil and a 7.0 — up 57 and 79 percent from Mike & Molly‘s series debut.

It’s Official: Fox Picks Up Tim Kring/Kiefer Sutherland Drama Pilot ‘Touch’ To Series
FOX has ordered 13 episodes of the new drama series TOUCH, created and written by Emmy-nominated Tim Kring (“Heroes”), it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, President of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. TOUCH, starring Emmy and Golden Globe winner Kiefer Sutherland, will join the schedule in the spring of 2012. The pilot was directed and executive-produced by Francis Lawrence (“Water for Elephants”), and the show comes from Chernin Entertainment and Tailwind Productions, in association with 20th Century Fox Television.
“TOUCH is another ambitious series from Tim Kring that is beautifully executed and has incredibly resonant themes for our times,” said Reilly. “With Kiefer back on the network as the face and force behind this creative new series, I’m confident it will resonate with viewers this spring.”
“Every once in a while, you encounter a piece of material that you just cannot say no to,” Sutherland added. “That, combined with the opportunity to work again with Peter Chernin and the Fox studio and network, makes me thrilled to be a part of this project. I also look forward to working with an extraordinary writer and producer like Tim Kring.”
TOUCH is a distinct and colorful drama in which science and spirituality intersect with the hopeful premise that we are all interconnected, tied in invisible ways to those whose lives we are destined to alter and impact.
At the center of TOUCH is MARTIN BOHM (Sutherland), a widower and single father, haunted by an inability to connect to his mute 11-year-old son, JAKE (David Mazouz). After multiple failed attempts at keeping Jake in school, Martin is visited by CLEA HOPKINS (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), a social worker sent to evaluate Jake’s well-being. Everything changes when Martin discovers that Jake possesses the gift of staggering genius – the ability to see things that no one else can and the patterns that connect seemingly unrelated events. Jake is indeed communicating. But it’s not with words, it’s with numbers. Martin meets ARTHUR DEWITT (Danny Glover), a professor and an expert on children who possess special gifts when it comes to numbers. Now, it’s up to Martin to decipher the meaning and connect the numbers to the cast of characters whose lives they affect.
TOUCH is a production of Chernin Entertainment and Tailwind Productions, in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Tim Kring created the series and wrote the pilot. Kring, Francis Lawrence, Peter Chernin (NEW GIRL, TERRA NOVA), Katherine Pope (NEW GIRL, TERRA NOVA), Sutherland, Suzan Bymel (“The War at Home”) and Carol Barbee (“Jericho”) are executive producers. Lawrence directed the pilot.

J.J. Abrams/Eric Kripke Thriller ‘Revolution’ Gets Pilot Production Commitment At NBC
With 2 new series, Person of Interest and Alcatraz, one returning, Fringe, and a Star Trek movie sequel on his plate, it wasn’t clear whether J.J. Abrams would be developing this year. He did, and the result, a drama written by Supernatural creator/executive producer Eric Kripke, has gotten a pilot production commitment from NBC. Like most things J.J., details about the project titled Revolution are being kept under wraps, but it’s being described as an epic adventure thriller. It hails from Abrams’ Bad Robot production company and Warner Bros. TV where the company is based. Abrams, Kripke and Bryan Burk are executive producing.
This is the second high-profile project for Kripke this season. The writer, repped by WME and Principato-Young, also is writing/executive producing an adaptation of the DC Comic Deadman for the CW and WBTV. At NBC, Bad Robot previously produced short-lived spy drama Undercovers and had an action drama penned by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec and starring Michael Emerson and Terry O’Quinn set up at the network with a put pilot commitment last season.

Chris Carter de regresso à TV
'X-Files' Creator Chris Carter Plots Return to TV With Police Thriller
X-Files creator Chris Carter is heading back to the small screen.
After several years away from Hollywood despite heavy demand, Carter has reemerged with a female-lead mystery police thriller titled Unique. The project, which is set up at Media Rights Capital, has a supernatural element to it. He is set to write and executive produce.
Carter spent nearly a decade at the helm of the David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson vehicle, which ran from 1993 to 2002. The series not only helped put host network Fox on the map but also define it as a destination for edgy, quality fare.
In addition to a rich ancillary revenue that came from DVD and merchandise, the franchise spawned two feature films, 1998's The X Files and 2008' The X Files: I Want to Believe. Last month, Anderson told an Australian morning show that there's talk of a third X-Files feature. "I hope it happens," she said. "There's talk of it."
Carter, who also created Millennium, which ran on Fox from 1996 to 1999, is repped by ICM.

'The Simpsons' em risco

3 Novas séries no canal SyFy
Syfy’s new development slate brings back space opera with Deep Space Nine’s Robert Hewitt Wolfe!
With Stargate gone and Battlestar Galactica long dead, there's been a dreadful absence of space opera on our screens lately. Thank goodness Syfy is stepping into the gap, launching a whole new spacefaring series. Even better news? The series is being crafted by Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Andromeda producer Robert Hewitt Wolfe. Here's everything we know.
According to the The Hollywood Reporter Syfy has three new dramas on the development slate.
The first is an adaption of Oni Press' Cold War-inspired supernatural series, Ghost Projekt (pictured above). The comic follows a female KGB agent and her American weapons inspector who team up to fights ghosts in Siberia. Supernatural's Brett Matthews is the writer and executive producer on the project, so it seems to be in good hands. (Matthews also worked on Buffy and Angel, and wrote one episode of Firefly as well as some tie-in comics.) Projekt actually sounds like a lot of fun — here's the official run-down from the comic:
Next up is the cleverly titled show Seeing Things. Channeling a little bit of Patrick Swayze's Ghost, this show follows a murdered cop who is stuck on Earth until he solves his own murder. His only link to the real world is a "socially awkward" man, who is just now realizing that all the crazy things he's seen in his life are actually dead people. Person of Interest's David Slack is producing and writing the script with Gabrielle Stanton from Haven.Russia is often remembered from the shadow cast during the Cold War-era when every stranger was a spy, but now that the Cold War is long over, some things left behind from that era may not stay lost. An abandoned Soviet research facility somewhere in Siberia has been home to a strange and dangerous weapon that is now in the hands of thieves claiming it for their own. U.S. weapons inspector Will Haley has been assigned to find out what dangers the weapon poses and with the help of Russian agent Anya Romanova they will find the answers, but it will be far from easy.
Last, and certainly not least, is the Space Opera which is right now going by the name of, Untitled Robert H. Wolfe Project. Very little is known about this series, and all THR is reporting is that the show is, "set in a postwar era in which a newly formed Unity Democracy orders a volatile mix of humans and trans-humans to lead the Starship Defender on an expedition in search of lost worlds requiring law and order." So it's a show set from the POV of a crew from a government such as the Alliance? Perhaps? That could be pretty exciting.
We actually asked Wolfe on Twitter a while back what it would take to get space opera back on television, and he responded:
Short, glib answer: I'll let you know if I ever pull it off... More serious [answer]: A vertically integrated studio & network willing to spend a lot of money 4 a potential long-term goldmine. Plus an original concept, a unique vision, a sense of fun, a compelling cast, etc. All the usual ingredients.
