OK, fica a correcção.

Casino Royale helmer Martin Campbell told press at the Chinese premiere for the film on Monday that he would not likely be directing the next Bond film despite the global success of the 21st installment.

Campbell also directed the first Pierce Brosnan 007 film, GoldenEye.

Screenwriters Robert Wade and Neal Purvis said earlier this week that they expect shooting to start at the beginning of next year.

James Bond 22 is currently scheduled for a November 7, 2008 release with Daniel Craig returning as the super spy.

Four directors are reportedly under consideration to direct Bond 22, with one Golden Globe and DGA nominee in particular said to be the leading contender to helm the sequel to Casino Royale.

Both Collider.com and LatinoReview.com are claiming that Marc Forster (Finding Neverland, Monster's Ball), Tony Scott (Top Gun, Deja Vu) and Alex Proyas (The Crow, I, Robot) are on the shortlist to direct Bond 22.

Collider says it has heard that "the front runner to direct is Mark Forster [sic]. It also seems that a deal may already be in the works." Forster previously collaborated with Bond studio Sony Pictures on the dramedy Stranger Than Fiction.

Latino Review adds another name to the director's list: Jonathan Mostow (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Breakdown). The site reports that all four rumored contenders "met on it for the job of directing the next Bond flick."

Bond 22 is slated to go before cameras in early 2008 for a fall release that year.

In related news, CHUD.com claims that Bond star Daniel Craig has dropped out of Fernando Meirelles' adaptation of Blindness in favor of filming Ed Zwick's Defiance.

If you liked "Casino Royale," (and who didn't?) you'll be happy to know that the screenwriting trio is now back in action for the 22nd Bond flick.

The as-yet-untitled "Bond 22" was written by British screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, but producers recently lured Polishin' Paul Haggis back to the project. Mr. Haggis, who also wrote (or co-wrote) "Crash," "Million Dollar Baby," and "Flags of Our Fathers," is generally credited with giving "Casino Royale" its tougher, grittier exterior. (One needs only to look at the Bond flicks written solely by the Wade & Purvis team -- "Die Another Day" and "The World Is Not Enough" -- to gauge how important Haggis' input was.)

We still don't know who the producers will pick as their director, but they'll probably be making a decision pretty soon. "Bond 22" is scheduled for a November 2008 release date.

Bond ? Isso ainda existe? Iria jurar que assassinaram o conceito no ltimo filme. O último e provavelmente os vindouros Bonds fazem-me lembrar o Robocop. Deram cabo daquilo tudo e voltaram a montar algo que já não é o que era originalmente. Calhou a darem-lhe outro nome.

Marc Forster to Direct Bond 22
Source: Columbia Pictures
June 19, 2007

Marc Forster will direct the 22nd James Bond adventure, it was announced today by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, producers of the James Bond films, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios.

Forster is the acclaimed director of the highly anticipated motion picture The Kite Runner, adapted from Khaled Hosseini's best-selling novel. He also recently directed the comic hit Stranger Than Fiction for Sony Pictures. Previously, Forster directed the award-winning and critically acclaimed films Finding Neverland, which was nominated for seven Academy Awards® including Best Picture, and Monster's Ball, for which Halle Berry won a Best Actress Oscar®.

Forster will commence work shortly with screenwriter Paul Haggis on a draft of the screenplay by Neil Purvis and Robert Wade.

Daniel Craig will reprise the role of James Bond in the as-yet-untitled Bond 22 production, which follows Casino Royale, the highest-grossing film so far in the most successful franchise in motion picture history.

With nearly $600 million in worldwide box-office receipts, Casino Royale was also regarded by critics as one of the best Bond films yet. Bond 22 will begin filming at Pinewood Studios, London, in December 2007. Columbia Pictures will release the film worldwide on November 7, 2008.

Wilson and Broccoli said, "We are delighted that Marc Forster, with his exceptional talent and unique vision, has agreed to direct our next James Bond film."

Forster said, "I have always been drawn to different kinds of stories and I have also always been a Bond fan, so it is very exciting to take on this challenge. The new direction that the Bond character has taken offers a director a host of new possibilities and I look forward to working with Daniel Craig, Barbara Broccoli, and Michael Wilson, as well as the team at Sony and MGM on this new film."

Amy Pascal, Co-Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, added, "We had a great experience working with Marc on 'Stranger than Fiction' and we are excited to be working with him again. He's an actor's director; he approaches material with intelligence and taste. What makes him the perfect choice for 'Bond 22' is that he will bring to this film all the elements Bond audiences expect -- action, humor, suspense, and thrills."

"The Bond franchise is one of MGM's most treasured legacies," added Harry Sloan, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, MGM. "We share Michael and Barbara's confidence in Marc Forster's directing talents and support him in his efforts to continue the evolution of the Bond story for today's filmgoers."

DANIEL HINTS AT COMIC BOND
HAVING toughened up the character of James Bond for Casino Royale to huge critical acclaim, Daniel Craig has surprisingly revealed that the next Bond outing will mark a return to the comedy that Roger Moore brought to the franchise in the Seventies.

Craig, 39, says of his forthcoming second outing as 007: “They [the producers] just want more gags. The next one’s going to be a lot funnier. Octopussy and Pussy Galore style gags. They’re all great names – but that’s the thing, the Bond jokes will be flipped on their heads.”

The Cheshire-born actor is keen to make Bond his own creation and that will apparently mean showing a softer, less macho side to the character.

“Bond is supposedly the most male moment [in film] but to me he’s never been macho. That Bond is something that Sean Connery created in Dr No,” he says.

“I don’t know Sean but I wouldn’t want to meet him in a dark alley – he was a big strong guy and he had a big male presence about him.

“Everybody was in an uproar when he was going to be James Bond. He got flak because he was basically an Edinburgh bricklayer. And everyone who read the books thought how can he possibly do it? But he created a style that was unique and kind of sexy.”

Not that Daniel wants to imitate Connery or any other preceding Bond, adding: “There’s no point in trying to compete with every Bond that came before. You manage to make it your own.”

Just as long as he dons those very fetching tight blue swimming trunks...

Oscar winner Paul Haggis was making the rounds doing press this past weekend for his new film In the Valley of Elah where he was peppered with questions about Bond 22.

Haggis is currently rewriting the Bond 22 screenplay for Sony and director Marc Forster. "I'm on page 22. I'm not writing it today because I'm here, but I was writing it up until 8 p.m. last night. It's a lot of fun. It's a whole different set of muscles," Haggis said at a press conference, according to Collider.com.

He continued, "It's something I was really concerned about doing because I liked Casino Royale so much, I had such fun doing it and I thought I could only fail by trying to do it again. But I'm giving it a shot and it's an original and it's not based on any book or short story or anything that Ian Fleming had done. Although it is based on Ian Fleming ideas. And it starts right after the last one, two minutes after Casino Royale this movie starts." Haggis also said the film will not be jokier, as had previously been reported.

ComingSoon.net quoted Haggis as saying that rumored contender Carice van Houten would not be playing the film's Bond girl role. "She's great, isn't she -- but she's not going to be in this one," Haggis reportedly said. "Everyone says they know what the ending is, and they're wrong. Everyone thinks they know about the Bond Girls, and they're wrong."
