Elizabeth Taylor Dies
The screen legend passes away at 79

Dame Elizabeth Taylor, once the world's biggest female star and arguably its most beautiful ever, has died at the age of 79 following a battle with congestive heart failure. The screen legend was best known for her roles in films from National Velvet to Cleopatra to Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?, but is probably best remembered these days for her personal life and loves.

Taylor was born in Hampstead in 1932 but moved to the US when she was just 7, appearing in her first film at the age of just 9. She became a star at 12 with her role in National Velvet, and was catapulted into the public spotlight - where she remained for the rest of her life. Roles in the original Father Of The Bride and a much-acclaimed turn in A Place In The Sun established her as an adult actress, and after a brief (and frustrating) studio-imposed hiatus in dull roles in the early 1950s, managed to turn in some unforgettable performances in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, Giant and of course Cleopatra.

It was the last film on which she began a love affair with Richard Burton which was to last - on and off - until he died in 1984. The pair were both married to other people at the time, but began what seemed to observers to be an inevitable affair, which in time turned to marriage. In fact, two marriages after the stormy pair divorced and then fell back together.They starred together in 11 films, one TV movie and a Broadway play during a remarkable creative and romantic partnership that fascinated the tabloid papers of the whole world. While Taylor was married eight times, it was the partnership with Burton that was the most enduring.

Due to worsening health, Taylor's last film appearance was in 1994's The Flintstones, but she did work on television throughout the last couple of decades - including the singular honour of providing the voice of Maggie Simpson's single word, Daddy.

She is survived by her four children and nine grandchildren.

A diva do cinema norte-americano Elizabeth Taylor faleceu esta manhã de quarta-feira, em Los Angeles, com a idade de 79 anos.
Embora os motivos da morte não tenham sido ainda divulgados, eram bem conhecidos os problemas de coração com que a actriz vivia e que inclusivamente a obrigaram a ser operada, em 2009.

Além de considerada uma das actrizes mais deslumbrantes que passou pelo grande ecrãs, Elizabeth Taylor ficou também conhecida pela sua vida privada colorida, ao longo da qual casou por sete vezes.

RIP, pelas últimas imagens dela estava bastante mal, e com um ar doente. Ficara para sempre na memória dos cinéfilos.

Uma das mulheres mais bonitas de sempre, no Cinema e fora dele!

Nunca é fácil envelhecer... mas deve ser mais difícil ainda quando já se foi uma Deusa...

Ela e o Richard Burton viveram um romance muito bonito, mas que provou que só o amor (e contrariamente ao que muitas vezes se diz) não chega por vezes para manter por vezes uma relação (mesmo que haja muito dinheiro). E acreditem que eu sei do que estou a falar.

Enfim, quase todos têm o seu dia na praia. Há que o viver bem enquanto se pode.

Enquanto houver cinema e cinéfilos (e dvdmaníacos), ela estará sempre connosco. E se houver realmente mais alguma coisa além disto, agrada-me pensar que talvez finalmente eles estejam juntos novamente.

Não foi esta senhora que foi casada 7 ou 8 vezes? ou seja a apetência dela para manter uma relação n deveria ser grande coisa.

Tu últimamente andas mesmo do contra...

...o número de relações que se têm (ou não) ao longo da vida, não tem muito a ver com as pessoas que realmente foram as mulheres ou os homens da nossa vida. Esses ou essas são geralmente apenas 1 ou 2, durante a vida toda. independentemente de todas as outras pessoas que passam pela nossa vida sentimental quanto a relação com essa ou essas pessoas especiais falha.

Tens razão em parte do que dizes. Mas qd referiste q nem sempre amor e dinheiro chegam para manter uma relação, e no caso desta senhora e casou e descasou 7 ou 8 vezes, é pq não foram só esses dois factores q foram determinantes no caso dela. Qd a pessoa casa e descasa uma série de vezes é sinal que n tem estabilidade (com todas as vertentes inerentes) para manter um relacionamento.

Westboro Baptist Church Plans To Picket Elizabeth Taylor's Funeral

Members of Westboro Baptist Church revealed plans on Wednesday to picket the funeral of Elizabeth Taylor, the silver screen legend who passed away this week at the age of 79.

The Twitter stream of Margie Phelps, legal adviser and de facto spokesperson for the small Kansas-based congregation, was littered on Wednesday with messages disparaging the late activist actress and revealing plans for Westboro to demonstrate at her forthcoming funeral.

"No RIP Elizabeth Taylor who spent her life in adultery and enabling proud fags. They cuss her in hell today. #Westboro will picket funeral!" one tweet read.

Taylor was a renowned AIDS advocate and one of the first celebrities to tackle the issue during the height of the epidemic in the 1980s. She founded the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation in 1985, which Time reports has raised over $100 million over 25 years.

The church, which recently won a Supreme Court case ruling that their type of inflammatory protest was protected by the First Amendment, has also notoriously coordinated rallies at the funerals of other public figures such as Elizabeth Edwards, Heath Ledger and Natasha Richardson.

According to TMZ Taylor's funeral will likely take place in Los Angeles.

Eu que tenho um bichinho contra "religião" (por vezes, um bichinho neutro), acho isto passar simplesmente dos limites. Deviam conter as opiniões mesquinhas para eles próprios e perceber que eles é que são o verdadeiro veneno.
