Just when we started to expect the Nielsen VideoScan numbers courtesy of Home Media Magazine on Fridays, they mix it up and release 'em on Monday -- we'd bet the holiday is to blame. The other curve ball this week, is the lack of a top ten list -- which we also hope is also due to a holiday and not a permanent deal. The lack of a list makes this a hard post, when only faced with the market share numbers. What we can tell is that Blu-ray titles were a little more popular this week than last, leading HD DVD by 66/34 (1.94:1) compared to last week's 65/35. We can also safely assume that Shrek, and the recent influx of HD DVD players, wasn't enough to make a dent in Blu-ray's new releases and recent price cuts. We suspect that HD DVD won't fare as well next week either, with Blu-ray's hot Die Hard franchise hitting the shelves while HD DVD really only had a very expensive Star Trek box set.

Blu-ray and HD DVD both find reasons to be thankful
At this point, it's no longer unusual for both sides in the format war to both claim victory in different areas, even on the same day. While the Blu-ray camp celebrates topping the 1-million disc sold mark in Europe and 73 percent share of all HD movies sold on the continent, HD DVD's Black Friday marketing push has put it over 750,000 dedicated players sold in North America. So far this doesn't mark a departure from the norm, while Blu-ray pushes sales via the PS3, HD DVD continues to ride its strategy of lower priced standalone players, we'll have to wait and see which one consumers choose this holiday season.

Blu-ray once again pulls ahead with help from Bruce in this week's Nielsen VideoScan numbers courtesy of Home Media Magazine. In fact this week's 72/28 (2.57:1) is the biggest lead Blu-ray has enjoyed since we started our weekly post a couple of months ago. HD DVD has a few hot titles of their own this week with Sherk the Third making the top five as well as Transformers which held on to HD DVD's only other top ten spot. Not surprisingly, the very expensive Star Trek box set failed to make the top ten. Judging by this list, it doesn't appear that Blu-ray recent discount sales had much of an impact on this weeks numbers and was more impacted by big titles -- surprise, surprise. The other trend that continues is Warner's Blu-ray titles make the list while its HD DVD brother does not -- we can't wait to see what happens in December when Harry hits the shelves. Judging by last week's titles, (not counted here) we'd expect much of the same next week, unless of course all those new HD DVD owners finally got done watching all those free titles and finally start buying movies to actually help red's cause.

Bem visto!

Blu-ray picks up where it left off a few weeks ago on its way to 400 titles by the end of the year with a mix of releases. The first comedy for the blu camp in some time, is Superbad, and the biggest title of the week is long awaited day and date release of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Fox, on the other hand continues to waiver, not only did they drop Independence Day from the release list this week, but for whatever reason they decided not to bring the sixth season of 24 to Blu-ray despite releasing it on DVD. HD DVD has two exclusives this week, first up is the documentary, Arctic Tale and the first season of the very popular Battlestar Galactica. While we can't wait to see how well these titles sell, next week is the big week when the Harry Potter series hits both formats at the same time as the latest installment of Borne and High School Musical.

Michael bay ataca HD-DVD e Microsoft
