"The Late Show" is one of three movies from the seventies that had their spiritual origins in the classic private-eye films. The other two were Dick Richards's "Farewell, My Lovely" (in which Robert Mitchum demonstrated that he was born to play Philip Marlowe), and Robert Altman's "The Long Goodbye," (in which Elliott Gould demonstrated that he was not).

Não é por nada, mas acho que o Ebert não pensou devidamente no enorme volume de subversividade implícito na interpretação do Gould no The Long Goodbye. Aquilo não é fiel ao livro - nem à personagem... propositadamente. E se dúvidas houvesse, o final espeta-lhes com um grande ponto de exclamação em cima.

Curiosamente também cá tenho o Hammett para ver este fds se tudo correr bem. Ainda não seja um grande fã do Wim Wenders.
