Exclusive: Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette in discussions for 'Scream' reboot

If you needed proof that everything old in Hollywood is becoming new again, look no further than Scream. The mid-'90s franchise that sent-up slightly older horror flicks is being remade into a whole new set of movies, starting this fall. Writer-director Kevin Williamson has been working on a trilogy that will bring back many of the characters from the original movies.
And EW has learned exclusively that Williamson has approached Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette to return. Deals have yet to be signed, however, as all involved try to hammer out potential scheduling conflicts that could arise now that Courteney Cox Arquette's pilot Cougar Town was picked up by ABC. (Agents for the actors have yet to return EW's request for comment.) No word on whether Neve Campbell's character, among others, will make the cut.

Last week, it was reported that Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette were in talks to star in a new "Scream" trilogy, which screenwriter Kevin Williamson is working on. Now, Digital Spy got a chance to ask Wes Craven, director of the first three movies, about the new project.
Craven tells the site that he is willing to read the script, expected to be done in August, and make a decision then as to whether he will direct the films. He also mentioned an interesting bit, saying that the Arquettes are confirmed to star and are the only ones returning from the original trilogy.

Não é que os Scream façam parte dos meus filmes favoritos mas gostei bastante do primeiro...
E quanto à comparação com o Scary Movie... Bem, nem vou por aí... A verdade é que o Scream foi um dos primeiros filmes que em muitos aspectos não só gozava consigo próprio como gozava com alguns esterotipos de determinado cinema de terror no modo como abordava determinadas situações. Além de que não se leva, na minha opinião, demasiado a sério.
Acho que estão longe de ser excremento. O 3º Scream era, na minha opinião, realmente mau e não vejo por onde quererão pegar nisto outra vez...
Agora se quiserem falar de Scary Movies e outros que tal que recorrem à piada fácil e pueril, com o objectivo nítido de dar gargalhandas just because a um público nitidamente adolescente, sem qualquer coisa que se assemelhe a uma história, be my guest.

A única hipótese de isto fazer algum sentido é se for uma espécie de desconstrução da febre de remakes de terror que Hollywood está a atravesar, da mesma forma que o 1º e 2º descontruiram os filmes de terror e as suas sequelas.
David Arquette e Courteney Cox já foram confirmados:
It's official! David Arquette and Courteney Cox have signed on to reunite with the Ghostface killer.
"We are going to be doing Scream 4," Arquette just told me from New York City, where he's hanging out in plastic box over Madison Square Garden for Feeding America (more on that later). "Kevin Williamson is writing the script at this moment, and hopefully Wes Craven is going to direct."
In the original horror trilogy, Arquette played Deputy Dewey Riley with Cox as a tabloid television reporter Gale Weathers...
Rumors began several months ago that the two were in talks for the fourth installment.
"I fell in love with my wife on Scream, so the opportunity to bring [Dewey] back to life and for my wife to play that really bitchy character again, it's just going to be really fun," Arquette said. "It's just great."
While Williamson recently revealed that Neve Campbell has turned down the chance to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott, Arquette said, "I hope Neve does it. I really hope so."
As for a new storyline, Arquette laughed: "Kevin has sort of put out the broad strokes, but I don't think I'm at liberty to share any of that."

Bob Weinstein has confirmed that Neve Campbell has signed to return as Sidney Prescott for Scream 4 for Dimension Films. She is accompanied by Courteney Cox and David Arquette who have already signed on.
According to Variety, Scream 4 will start production in April or May as the first of a new trilogy, and the company is talking to Wes Craven to direct, Weinstein reports.

Segundo um artigo do Los Angeles Times, Wes Craven revelou que já irá começar a filmar Scream 4 em Maio próximo, baseado no guião já pronto de Kevin Williamson, o argumentista de todos os filmes da saga e que também colaborou com o realizador em Cursed.
Scream 4 está previsto ser o primeiro filme de uma nova trilogia e Neve Campbell (em cima na fotografia), Courteney Cox e David Arquette, caras bem conhecidas da saga, já estão confirmados no elenco.
O veterano Wes Craven já finalizou o seu mais recente projecto intitulado de My Soul to Take, mais conhecido na altura da sua produção sob o titulo 25/8. My Soul to Take tem a sua estreia prevista durante o decorrer deste ano, no qual se pode esperar por um trailer em breve.

Kevin Williamson só escreveu os dois primeiros, o terceiro foi escrito por Ehren Kruger.
Tenho curiosidade em ver o que sai daqui, apesar de não ser grande fan dos filmes Scream. Mas acho que a cena da Drew Barrymore no primeiro Scream é a melhor coisa que Wes Craven alguma vez filmou na sua carreira.

Heat Vision reports that Adam Brody (Jennifer’s Body), Marley Shelton (A Perfect Getaway), and Erik Knudsen (Youth in Revolt) have joined the cast of Wes Craven’s Scream 4. According to HV, “Brody will play a cop recently graduated from college who was raised on the CSI TV series; Shelton will play a deputy who knew Campbell’s character in high school; and Knudsen will have a role similar to the one played by Jamie Kennedy in the first two installments, a character who is familiar with horror movie conventions and a provider of comic relief.”
The three actors will join original cast members Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette along with fresh blood Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Rory Culkin and Nico Tortorella. Craven and writer Kevin Williamson are doing everything in their power to prevent the identity of the killer from leaking. It’s important to remember that spoilers are now much easier to disseminate online than they were in 2000 when Scream 3 came out. Scream 4 hits theaters on April 15, 2011.
