O site superherohype adiantou a noticia que, James Cameron irá realizar um filme (misto real e CGI) adaptado da Manga criada por Yukito Kishiro. Isto é sem dúvidas excelentes notícias, desde a desilusão de que Cameron afinal não estaria envolvido no projecto da adaptação de 'Evangelion'.

Titanic director James Cameron, whose new IMAX film Aliens of the Deep opens January 28, talked to ComingSoon.net about his next project, the big screen adapation of Yukito Kishiro's anime comic Battle Angel Alita.

Cameron: 26th century, the story takes place 300 years after a societal collapse caused by a major war, but in that society, it's a technological dark age following a pinnacle of achievement far, far beyond where we are right now. So in a sense it's post-apocalyptic, but it's post-apocalyptic from a very high level. So now, you've got cyborg technology as just a way of life. People are augmented a lot as workers and so on, so being a cyborg is not unusual. The main character is a cyborg. She has an organic human brain, and she looks like she's about fourteen years old. She has a completely artificial body and she's lost her memory- she's found in this wreckage and she's reconstituted by this guy who is a cyber-surgeon who becomes her kind of surrogate father. It's a father-daughter relationship story that just has the most insane action that you can imagine. It will be PG-13 -- lots of blood, but it's all blue."

De qualquer maneira o projecto mais recente dele é mesmo o Aliens of the Deep cujo trailer já por aí corre.
Entretanto existe de facto uma adaptação do Evangelion a ser feita (Fx pela WETA) e também uma adaptação de Aeon Flux com a Charlize Theron, isto para quem gosta de anime é ano em cheio.
Filme 3D com óculos....? Por favor.... isso só serve para dar uma valente dor de olhos e pôr um gajo estrábico... Será que o Cameron pensa mesmo que isso é o futuro do cinema? Deve estar maluquinho... Se é para substituir todos os projectores do mundo para um novo tipo de cinema, eu apostaria muito mais depressa no cinema filmado e projectado a 48 fps (que aumenta o grau de realismo e qualidade da imagem, assim como a passagem de TVs 50 Hz para 100 Hz) do que na porcaria da 3D...

Tenho que discordar contigo, eu também não aceitava muito bem a ideia dos filmes em 3D. A quando da Expo 98, adorei ver um filme em 3D e recentemente vi o SPY Kids 3D - Games Over de Robert Rodrigues, e também gostei. Infelizmente a formula mágica de fazer filmes para consumo está esgostada. James Cameron, George Lucas ( STAR WARS 3D ) e entre outros realizadores, procuram novos conceitos de cinema, não é por acaso que George Lucas irá lançar em 2007 o Star Wars 3D..
E muito mais filmes irão aparecer em 3D, estou certo disso ( se a moda pegar )
Epá, eu deixarei de ser contra se inventarem um método que não dê dores de cabeça e de olhos. Se já o inventaram, que venha, mas não deixo de estar céptico...
Eu já vi filmes em 3D no IMAX em Vila Franca de Xira e... não é agradável. É bonito, mas não se consegue ter os óculos postos durante mais de uns 20 segundos... parece que os olhos se estão a derreter ou que vão saltar para fora das órbitas, como se estivéssemos num vácuo...
Parece que o homem ainda não vai realizar "Battle Angel Alita" e que o seu proximo filme tem, por enquanto, o título provisório de "Untitled Project 880", que muitos crêem ser um velho projecto de James Cameron, "Avatar". Segundo consta, este "Untitled Project 880" era para ser filmado depois, mas ao que parece, a ordem foi inversa.
Since June of last year we've been wondering what James Cameron's PROJECT 880 is. It was supposed to compete with BATTLE ANGEL for Cameron's next film but since a casting call appeared online we assumed (not knowing anything about 880) it was for ALITA and that film would be next. But a scooper by the name of Mike writes in with an interesting theory and some pretty good research to back it up about Cameron's dualing films. Mike says it's not BATTLE ANGEL that's next, but the mysterious PROJECT 880 and that the latter is actually AVATAR, a film Cameron has been trying to get off the ground since the TITANIC days. First read this description of AVATAR lead character Zuleika from Cameron's treatment: "A NA'VI WOMAN. She is young, and lithe as a cat, with a long, slender neck, muscular shoulders, and nubile breasts... a statuesque vision. Let's not mince words here... she is devastatingly beautiful. For a girl with a tail. In human age she would be in her late teens."
Now let's read the Mali Finn casting call, to "star in a James Cameron film that begins principal photography spring 2006," released last year: "FEMALE LEAD: 16-mid 20s. Any ethnicity, including Caucasian. She moves and behaves with confidence and a sense of nobility. Lithe as a cat. Athletic and agile. She is a warrior. Graceful movement and an ear for languages and dialects are essential." Some definitely similarities, right? And the "ear for languages and dialects" lends itself to the fact that the character is part of that Na'vi people who speak their own dialect. So if the casting call is to be believed and this film would start production this spring, will PROJECT 880/AVATAR go before BATTLE ANGEL? Our man Mike says the ANGEL script will continue to be revised while 880/AVATAR will film in spring at Fox Baja. I'd link you to Cameron's AVATAR treatment, which had been readily available all over the web for quite some time but recently all copies are no longer available... In the sci-fi thriller, Jake, a paraplegic war veteran is brought to another planet, Pandora, which is inhabited by the Na'vi, a humanoid race with their own language and culture. Those from Earth find themselves at odds with each other and the local culture.
Cameron says he hopes to start shooting a cast of unknown actors on a stage in Los Angeles by February.
"Believe it or not, the shooting is a very small part of it," Cameron says. "It's a very, very big project where the shooting is like a month and a half -- not really very much. There's just so much CG, and the visual effects are a huge component. A lot of it is performance capture. We use different techniques (from, for example, Sony Pictures' upcoming 'Monster House'), but it's the same general idea."
He added that they are "very active right now in terms of casting. We're not looking at anyone, we're looking at everyone. There are a number of characters that we can cast from that up-and-coming talent pool. They're not going to be well-known names -- until after the movie, hopefully."
Creio que o filme vai ser feito da mesma forma que "Final Fantasy - The Spirits Within", mas utilizando as últimas técnicas digitais. E segundo consta, não podiam ter escolhido melhor equipa para o trabalho... quatro letras: WETA.
Espermos um regresso em grande do genial Cameron , ja tenho saudades dum grande filme do Cameron e que os ultimos 10 anos sem fazer projectos cinematograficos , com documentarios e afins onde foram desenvolvidas as mais diferentes tecnicas tenham permitido , como ele afirma , ser de grande uso para os proximos projectos.
Recentemente deu uma entrevista e disse que os seus projectos seguiram uma ideia ja muito usada em hollywood com a concepcao do filme inicial , e se este tiver sucesso filmando duas sequelas back to back formando duas trilogias (Avatar e o proximo projecto Battle Angel que supostamente segue os mesmos moldes de filmagem do Avatar).
Espero sinceramente que nao se perca apenas em toda a tecnologia desenvolvida e faca algo memoravel como já a muito espero e desepereo dele.

Estou aqui a lembrar-me da serie firefly e do filme serenity, um exemplo de boa FC (para quem gostar) e nao teve o sucesso merecido..
Raramente se juntam um bom argumento de FC, resmas de dólares para os efeitos especiais e a direcção de um realizador competente.
Estes próximos projectos do James Cameron prometem reunir isso tudo e por isso é que estão a criar tantas expectativas.
Não estou a ver o James Cameron entrar nos devaneios do George Lucas em que o que interessa é exibir um excelente CGI...

Promete muito este filme. Já se sabe que o Cameron cria sempre novos standards técnicos a cada novo filme que faz, se nunca descuidar no argumento (o que lhe falta em originalidade compensa com a solidez).
Fala-se que o orçamento poderá chegar aos $300 milhões, o que confirma a tradição deste senhor em fazer sempre filmes mais caros que os anteriores (quebrando recordes, entretanto).
